Take note of colors and different patterns (wallpaper or mushroom paint on the walls, furniture coatings, something like that) before you go shopping for an area rug. The last thing you want to do is take home a carpet that doesn’t compliment your room at all. If possible, take a piece of fabric from the back of a piece of furniture to take with you, or take a well-lit picture with you to the store. Quality of an area carpet for dining room can often be determined as to whether the colors in the yarn are made of is bleeding.

When you choose the mat you want, look very carefully at the threads that it is made of. If you can see that the colors are “rubbing” on each other, it’s probably not a good choice. Natural fibers longer and feel better than clothes. Try to get wool, silk or cotton. Flip the area over and take a look at the back of it. Now, fold it so that you can really see what backing is not at the same time folded. The less support you can see, the better the carpet. See if the store you are buying from the area carpet will let you take it home and see how it works with the room. If they do not come, see if they can get a color swatch of the colors for you to try.
